I think we can all agree that the horror genre has open arms for Mr. Peele, and for his Sophomore feature Us, most of us can give a full embrace. Although not as concise thematically as Get Out, Us is equally ambitious and poignant. There are so few things I didn’t like about the film, and they’re not really worth getting into here because I want all horror fans to get out and see it. See it in a theater with others! The best thing about Us is its ability to generate conversation. What does it mean to be tethered to others? What does it mean to be people who are trapped and forgotten? And what’s up with that frisbee scene? It really does take great art to get large swaths of the public talking about deep social issues, and as a proud horror fan, I’m so grateful that’s what we get with Peele’s latest film. This will be a great year for horror and for Lupita Nyong’o!
